Colombia Overview

Colombia 18 Days Itinerary

DAY 1: ARRIVAL BOGOTA
After a long flight, you will be picked up by our English speaking guide at the airport. S/he will accompany you to your centrally located hotel about half an hour from the airport (depending on traffic).

DAY 2: WANDERING AROUND
With this city experience you are totally flexible in what you would like to discover. Your guide will wander around with you and show you his/her favorite places of the city and of course, tell you many different stories.

DAY 3: NEIVA, TATACOA DESERT
The Tatacoa Desert is an ideal place to observe the stars, as it is not contaminated by artificial light when the sky is clear and is also very close to the equator.

DAY 4: ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK
Archaeological park of San Agustín, formed by 4 "Mesitas" (sites) with tombs, temples and statues. In the park we will also visit the Fuente Ceremonial de Lavapatas, the Forest of Statues and the Archaeological Museum.

DAY 5: SAN AGUSTÍN & SURROUNDINGS
We´ll visit to the stunning Estrecho del Magdalena, where Colombia’s largest river pass through a narrow 2 meters throat (the narrowest point of the river), the Ethnographic Museum and the pre-hispanic tombs of Obando that remain here, the Alto de los Ídolos Archaeological Park and the stunning Salto del Mortiño waterfall.

DAY 6: TIERRADENTRO
Archaeological Park, its Nasa indigenous culture ethnographic museum, the archaeological museum and the hypogea along the Alto de Segovia and Alto del Duende mountains, decorated with anthropomorphic, zoomorphic and geometrical paintings.

DAY 7: TIERRADENTRO
Hills Pirámide (+1-hour transportation and 1-hour medium difficulty hiking) which offers a stunning view over the Park, or El Aguacate (+4-hours medium-high difficulty hiking) where more hypogea can be appreciated, also a breathtaking panoramic over Cauca mountains.

DAY 8: POPAYAN
This 2-3-hours tour, visits Popayán’s historic center, characterized by its unique colonial architecture that has earned it to be known as "Colombia’s White City". The processions of Holy Week as well as the Gastronomic Congress for example, have given it recognition.

DAY 9: SILVIA & TRANSFER TO CALI
Silvia is located around one hour and a half out from Popayan. Here, every Tuesday the Guambiano indigenous community that lives in the surroundings, meets at town's market to exchange their products.

DAY 10: TASTE OF SALSA & PACIFIC
Visit to a foundation that recovers and values the culture. The project has been implemented in Colombia through workshops of musical instruments from the Pacific, Atlantic and Andean regions. / Alameda de la Salsa / Jairo Varela Museum.

DAY 11: JEEP TOUR & COFFEE
Route 1, Cordoba & Pijao (traditional coffee farm) Traditional coffee farm where you will learn more about the coffee process: planting, harvesting, and drying the coffee / Village of Cordoba, where you will visit shops with works of art from "Guadua".

DAY 12: WAX PALMS PIJAO
Municipality of Pijao, an altitude of 1650 meters above sea level. Andean tropical forests, where we will see different species of native birds, mammals, plants and yarumo trees. From this point we will start our hike to the wax palm valley which takes about 2 hours (level: medium difficulty).

DAY 13: FLIGHT TO CARTAGENA
The Caribbean Coast, Cartagena is also called the Pearl of the Caribbean. Enjoy the days to come and explore this beautiful colonial city on your own by strolling through the romantic cobblestone streets.

DAY 14: WALKING TOUR CARTAGENA
The colorful streets of Cartagena are made for a walk, explore the walled city, also we´ll visiting monuments such as the Clock Tower or Don Pedro de Heredia ́s statue, Parque Bolivar, Palace of the Inquisition and San Pedro Claver square, dedicated to the Spanish-born monk known as “Slave of the Slaves” for his life spent ministering African slaves brought to the Spanish colonies. / Garcia Marquez Literary Menu.

DAY 15: SAN BASILIO PALENQUE
The African corner, declared by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage of humanity, offers to visitors a window on Afro-descendant history in Colombia and America. In San Basilio de Palenque a local guide will receive us and we will learn a little of the Palenquero dialect, history and culture of this great town.

DAY 16: MOMPOX
Its white-washed houses and colonial churches are still very well preserved and walking along the lonesome cobble-stone streets just makes you feel centuries back in time. Mompox is also famous for its many workshops of filigree art and of course, we will visit a factory and can observe first hand how this beautiful jewelry is made.

DAY 17: RETURN CARTAGENA
Enjoy a last afternoon in Cartagena and discover this beautiful colorful city on your own. This is your chance to buy the last souvenirs and stroll through the cobblestone streets by yourself.

DAY 18: DEPARTURE
Now the moment has come to say goodbye to this beautiful country. Your guide will pick you up at your hotel and will take you to the airport.
